Juliet DeVaux questioned:
I have two beagles. One is 4 (male), one is 3 (female). For the most part they are very excellent about no accidents in the house but recently my male beagle has been peeing in the house within a small period of time from the last time we’ve gone out. I have one door to enter/exit my condo and no fenced yard (I have to walk them). And any advice about getting them to do their “business” quickly would be appreciated too. Especially now that it’s so freakin’ cold outside.

Crate training inside the house when you’re not able to watch them.
Otherwise, start rewarding them, with food treats or clicker, when they potty outside. Don’t tempt them with a treat, they won’t know what you want. But give them some type of reward AFTER they do their business. Eventually they will learn what going outside is for and what you want them to do.
And get them fixed if they’re not already.

Get a crate, a dog will not urinate where it sleeps. problem solved. Your doggie will get used to it.

To get them to potty quickly? Give them treats the second they end (have ready in pockets). To keep him from pottying in house? scold when he does then take him immediately out and give him the command to go then praise him a small (even tho he doesn’t go). Buy a bottle of “natures miracle” (from pet store) it neutralizes the urine odor. Dogs urinate where they can smell they’ve gone before. Take away that odor and he won’t go there. Also, crate train when youre not available to watch him.

Does the dog pee outside than again in the house or just peeing inside. If he’s peeing outside than inside it sounds like he’s got some urinary problems, take him to the vet. If he’s not going at all start over with housebreaking the dog. Keep a 5-6 foot leash attached to his body harness and tie the other end to your belt, watch for his cues that he’s got to go than walk him out ASAP.
