get one from a rescue or pound it saves a life.. name it chance if its a boy because you saved its life

4million dogs everyyear are killed because they dont have homes. thats just in shelters.
22000 are greyhounds are killed because they are too slow to race every year.
8000dogs starve to death every year because people dont care enough to feed them.
thats just the dogs we know about.

Ella and Alex are both brilliant. 2 syllables is about the maximum to use every day. Personally, I like German names for Dachshunds, because, well, they’re German. I named mine Schnitzel, but I also favor literary names. I reckon it’s cute, and different than what most people do. Just a suggestion.

Ella doesn’t really go well with a dachshund. Im getting a black cocker spaniel female and Im naming her Ella. Here are some other suggestions:
    Leslie
    Lindsey
    Nicole
    Kiki
    Ginger
    Cinnamon
    Gypsy
    Amanda
    Cris
    Jesse
    Hanna.

I was stuck between Gypsy and Ella for my puppy. But I chose on Ella it’s really pretty but for a dachshund…It doesnt go well.

Seems a bit weird giving it such a human name.

I like Stretch or Slink for a dachshund. Met a puppy today called Fudge, thought that was a excellent name.

I prefer pet names that have two syllables.

my Chi-Dachsund mix (female) — Abby
my Chi-Pug mix (female) — Bindi
my torti cat (female) — Shelly …(for tortoise shell)

All of my pets are from animal shelters. I had to come up with the name for Abby; Bindi was originally called Bambi; Shelly’s name was Nermal (from Garfield or something).

I fell in like with a dachshund once at a pet store (I know, terrible, I didn’t buy her) and I would have named her Daisy.

    Penelope is cute too!

I do like Ella and Alex is ok, a small common and humanly.

How about Peanut for a boy. If we had to name our dog again her’s would be Dinky, but that’s 1 1/2 years after owning her.

My best advice would be to wait and pick a name when you take her/him home. Name them based on who they are. Plus most of the time you will probally end up using a nick name anyway just like we do with our sig others and kids.

Excellent luck and delight in you puppy when/if you get one.
